1304855 Aliphatic dicarboxylic acids IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 June 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 39079/69 Addition to 1254011 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Aliphatic dicarboxylic acids are prepared by contacting a cycloalkanone in liquid phase with molecular oxygen in the presence of the corresponding cycloalkanol and cycloalkane and a catalyst comprising compounds of vanadium with at least one compound of cobalt, iron, manganese and copper. Cyclohexanone, cyclododecanone or cyclooctanone may be used and soluble metal compounds, e.g. acetates and/or acetylacetonates, preferably vanadium/cobalt salts are preferred. Examples describe the use of cobalt acetate tetrahydrate and vanadyl acetylacetonate catalysts and vanadyl acetylacetonate with ferrous acetylacetonate, manganese or cupric acetate.
